From the West Coast to the East Coast, this month's guest reader has experienced the many opportunities that libraries offer.
Born in Southern California, my first exposure to a library was in conjunction with the local summer reading program. When it was blazing hot my mother would drive us to the library, which was an oasis of coolness. While I greatly appreciated the very effective air conditioning years ago, the early exposure to books has generated a lifetime of enjoyment from reading.

Snow Branch is getting an exciting new look! Spotsylvania County has contracted for new carpeting for the entire branch. This is the final phase of renovations that began last year when the county painted the branch with fresh, new colors.
New carpet is already in place in the majority of the branch, but some old tile was uncovered in a few of the rooms and needs to be removed before they can finish the project. As a result, the Snow Branch will be closed February 5-11 and will reopen on February 12th with fresh new carpet throughout!
If you visit on the 12th, you will get a behind the scenes look as County staff moves furniture and shelving into place, and library staff puts materials back on the shelves of the impacted rooms.

Most of all, Lucy loves her fluffy wool hat that keeps her head—and heart—warm.
It makes her brave. It makes her bold. It makes her bloom!

Another wonderful author has “gone West.” Ursula K. Le Guin (10/21/1929-1/22/2018) may be best known for her Earthsea Trilogy. Its first book, A Wizard of Earthsea, tells of a stubborn, magically gifted boy who is plucked from obscurity as a goatherd and taken to Roke, the school for wizards, where his vast power proves as difficult to manage as his temper.
