Discover ships and captains making port in this bustling sea town or conduct a general search to get an idea of the commercial activity. For instance, on Christmas Day, 1816, a half dozen ships made port from as far away as Boston, Massachusetts, and as close as Richmond, Virginia, bringing undisclosed cargoes! Search can be done by year, ship name, captain name, OR combinations thereof.
The information in this database comes from the research of John "Jack" Johnson, long-time Fredericksburg resident and devoted historian. He spent many hours at the Library of Virginia for his researches. He also collected announcements from the Virginia Herald newspaper, available on microfilm at the Central Rappahannock Regional Library. His principal area of interest was port records after 1782.
Jack Johnson died in April of 1999. He is sorely missed.
