For Veterans' Day: A 65th D-Day Anniversary Exhibition

On this day, we remember the sacrifice of soldiers in England, the United States, and France who fought and died in the Great War, the war to end all wars. While their noble goal is not yet realized, their noble deeds continue to be honored from the 1921 burial of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery to our daily remembrances of those who have been or are in the armed services.

Storm Warnings!

Recent storms cause me to remember a tornado many summers ago in Illinois. In Virginia, our "season," or the time when we are at greater risk for experiencing tornadoes, is July through August according to the Weather Channel, with the hurricane season running from June through November. There's no time like now to take some precautions.   Find out more about storm warnings.

Storm Warnings!

The afternoon breeze, humidity, and thunderheads cued the adults to listen to the radio. The broadcast confirmed their suspicions of impending, severe thunderstorms. We went about the business of stowing the toys, the lawn furniture, and garden tools into Grandma and Grandpa's sheds.

Fireworks All Around!

Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year. In case your plans aren't firmed up, events are taking place at towns and cities all around the region offering the possibility of tried and true or discovery. Since most events begin early and end late, consider taking a sun hat, sun glasses, a flashlight, lots of water, and sunscreen to make the day a pleasurable experience.

Creative Marketing

Marketing

We were recently interviewed for possible inclusion in a book about word-of-mouth-marketing.  The authors are intrigued with how we market our library services and resources not just to our patrons, but also to our funding organizations, other libraries, and other organizations.  For example, staff have used free software programs to create a video entitled "Who Needs the Public Library?," which you can view on YouTube in our crrlvideo "channel."
