Words on Bathroom Walls by Julia Walton

In Words on Bathroom Walls, by Julia Walton, Adam, now 16, has suffered from auditory and visual hallucinations for years. Only recently has he finally been diagnosed as schizophrenic. This diagnosis makes sense to Adam, who is accustomed to mobsters bursting into classrooms and firing machine guns at will and the naked man who follows him around and keeps him company sometimes—of course, these are things only he sees hears and experiences.

As well as finally receiving a diagnosis, Adam has also found himself in a clinical trial for a new drug to help with his symptoms. As part of the trial, Adam must be closely monitored to ensure that the medication is only having positive effects on him. The book is written as Adam’s diary entries to his therapist. His therapy sessions are a required part of the clinical trial, but Adam refuses to speak to the man. Instead, he pens answers to the various questions for the therapist to read later.

Join Us for Lunch!

During the summer, children and teens have learned to expect an extra helping of everything CRRL typically offers. Cool events for teens, summer reading with prizes, Fun Fest events, and special events with wildlife, just to name a few. In addition to great classes and events, children and teens can also find a nutritous lunch at three of our branches, thanks to partnerships with organizations in our community.

Connect to the DMV at the Library!

The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles is bringing its DMV Connect program to select branches of Central Rappahannock Regional Library.

The program was developed to serve Virginians who may not be able to travel to a DMV office. You'll be able to get and renew ID cards, licenses, and learners' permits. You can also take care of titles, vehicle registrations, transfers, and plate returns. Please note: DMV Connect is not able to perform any testing or provide birth, death, or marriage certificates.

Cover to Wolf in the Snow

Last week I was on the edge of my seat, along with other lovers of children’s literature, as this year’s Youth Media Awards were announced by the American Library Association. I’m always thrilled when one of my favorites wins, and I rush to read the winners and honor books that I am not familiar with. These books exemplify the richness of children’s literature and are some of the best-of-the-best picture books from 2017.
